The family and I have moved and we’re settling in in our new spot. I am thrilled that beginning in just under three weeks I will be teaching a fifth grade class of 14 wonderful children. There is much to do between now and then — getting the room ready, especially. My new classroom was [...]

My lucky 14-year-old Calvin and his 21 lucky classmates are off on their eighth grade trip in Hawaii. It’s been awhile since he’s been gone for so long and I’m starting to miss him.
His absence has me thinking about my parenting of him and what it means to be the parent of a teenager. The [...]

During my little blogging hiatus, Alice and her class participated in the Pacific Northwest Waldorf School Olympiad. It was a beautiful day and the children competed with their whole hearts. It was simply beautiful to watch. At the end Alice said, “Now what am I going to look forward to.” I was so glad to [...]

The best part is that this computer is already loaded with all the yummy software I’ve been [...]

This morning I got home from a lovely visit to the Sandpoint Waldorf School. I had a great time teaching a group of fourth graders there.
As part of their Human and Animal block I brought them a lesson about spiders. It was a lot of fun to share things we already knew about spiders and [...]

Every year the fifth graders at our school meet up with fifth graders from the other Waldorf schools in the area to compete in the annual Waldorf School Olympiad. At this event the students participate in the original Greek Olympiad events, including discus, javelin, running, long jump, and Greek wrestling. It is an incredibly beautiful [...]

If you want your children to be intelligent read them fairy tales. If you want your children to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales. ~Albert Einstein
Today I told the Grimms’ fairy tale The Fisherman and His Wife to the first grade at our school. I had known for a few days that this [...]

It seemed to David that he heard voices singing in the wind among the olive trees, as though the trees themselves were singing, voices that sang not to the ear but to the soul. ‘He shall feed His flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them.’
I am reading [...]
