I made the big mistake yesterday of going on the website of that great online knit/crochet community Ravelry. My intention was to find a nice sock pattern, and perhaps some other sock knitters to talk shop with. Well, I found that and so much more — I’ve got quite a few patterns added to my [...]

There’s nothing like turning the kids loose on the house with the camera for rediscovering all of the little imperfections. Here’s what Alice and Leo uncovered today.
Piles of laundry.
The dusty mantle with “kid and pet” cleaner at the ready.
Ewww. The buffet full of “borrowed and ready to be returned” items.
The up-side is that this means [...]

Procrastinator extraordinaire that I am, I’ve taken to making a schedule for myself even (especially!) on the weekends — particularly the kid-free variety. Without a schedule I find that I putter. My last kid-free Saturday went something like this:
8:30 wake up, make coffee, drink it while reading email.
9:30 shower
10:00 walk dog
11:00 errands
12:00-7:00 putter
Puttering is what [...]

After fighting with my never-give-up side, I decided to pull my Danish Nattrojer off the needles. I am so glad I did. This thing is enormous!
So no starting-a-new-project guilt for me! If I was going to start a new project, though, I was at least going to require myself to use the same yarn. So [...]

So, after months of agonizing, I did finally purchase a camera, and I’m so pleased with it.
For the longest time I debated between going with a DSLR or a simpler premium point and shoot. I decided that because I really do want to be able to achieve some beautiful effects in the photos I take [...]

Hello everyone. Yes, a long sabbatical from this little space, but greater attentiveness will soon be inspired by the brilliant photographs I will soon be taking with my as-yet undecided-upon camera. Opinions on a digital camera? I’d love to hear them. My major question? DSLR vs. megazoom. Will I use the extra features enough to [...]

We had a lovely New Year’s Day. It mostly involved lazing about, though we did have a short burst of productivity to take the Christmas tree down. Most years I can’t wait for things to get back to normal after the holidays. The Christmas tree comes down as quickly as humanly possible; I start doing [...]

It is so interesting to me to have these two back to back days, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, that inspire in me to think in two such completely opposite ways. Today feels like a day to look back over the year that was 2009. Though I usually find it much more difficult to look backwards [...]
