going back

Well, we’ve officially decided to send The Girl back to school. She’s so excited she can hardly contain herself. Her teacher is excited, too. I’m excited, too. I’m still a little concerned about keeping up with helping her improve her reading, but I think that with my mornings now free I’ll be able to free up my evenings enough to really work with her (if she has the energy after a long day of school.)

We’re finishing up our Ancient Civilizations block (finally). And yesterday worked on our Mesopotamia title page. Here’s mine:

And here’s The Girl working on hers:

Today is a low-key day. I’m a bit under the weather so we’re reading and doing handwork at home. Cozy.

I’ll be sad to lose this special time with my daughter, but I know that there are things she’s missing out on by not being at school. We’ll have to work on finding time for those special moments together.

I’m also thinking about what I’m going to do with my free time in theĀ  mornings. I’m thinking about developing a new blog that focuses on Waldorf Education exclusively, keeping this one for family and home life. I’m imagining that when (if) I begin class teaching again a blog would be a very good way to document the experience (and I can imagine it developing quite a readership.) I still feel like I’m figuring out this blog thing. I’m reading lots of blogs, and posting comments, but I haven’t quite found the way to post topics that are interesting enough to receive my own comments. Some days I feel like I’m posting in a void.

In December I’m going to be teaching a block to some 8th graders at a school about an hour and a half from here. It will be quite an adventure. I imagine traveling back and forth a couple of days a week, and staying there with my sister the rest of the week. I’m really looking forward to it and can’t wait to post here about the experience.
