a blessed day
Well, my birthday was very happy indeed. It was one of those days when everything seemed to go right. Stoplights turned green as I approached; the birds sang when I woke up; even the rain let up for my 45 minute walk with Lula.
Today made me feel so grateful to be a part of a community. The children in aftercare today were so happy it was my birthday. They sang to me. The “fairy mother” who sometimes visits and leaves little gifts for us left me a present (thanks Holli). And during rest time one of the dear little ones sat up in her bed and called to me. “Miss Meredith?” “Yes, Annika?” “I love you.” “I love you too, Annika.” It was a positively heart-melting day.
Later I went to my mom’s. She gave me an oh-so-generous birthday gift and I’m now considering how to spend it. My choices?
1 — fabric for the quilt I have in mind (for Alice)
2 — yarn for the sweater I have in mind (also for Alice)
3 — deposit it into the new camera savingsĀ fund.
Hmmm, decisions, decisions.
Tonight little Leo came down with a fever and was warm and snuggly in my lap, even more full of the “I love you, Mom”’s than usual. Calvin and Alice were wild and wrestling with Lula until I sent Alice upstairs to get ready for bed. Calvin went from 60 to 0 in about 10 seconds.
How is it that even 14 year olds are cute when they’re sleeping?

Tomorrow will be a tea-drinking, cozy, rainy day off from school. Good thing the game closet is stocked.
