sewing
Now that my loft is all cleaned out, I’m dying to get to the sewing machine. Lately everything I see is inspiration. I’d love to create some cool, transformed vintage clothing for my children. A little lace here, a few buttons there, even a dash of embroidery — voila, old clothes made even better than new. And lately everything I see on the web is inspiring me to sew . . .
SouleMama’s adorable scarf and pants for her little one
The Paintbox quilt that I even have already listed as one of my works in progress (even though I’ve only work I’ve done on it is purchasing a teensy bit of the fabric.)
And these tiny happy collecting bags found at tiny happy’s blog. So cute!
And most of all, my favorite apron pattern, rediscovered in the loft clean-out.
I’ve got a very busy week, though aren’t they all. By the time we finish soccer practice, dinner, bath and bedtime for the little one and then homework for the bigger ones, there’s not much time or inspiration to start working on a sewing project. Somehow it just feels easier to take out my knitting. Still, now that I’m all set up, hopefully the inspiration will find it a little easier to strike.
Speaking of knitting, here’s the recent progress. . .

This is the too big Bea Ellis fair isle hat for my nephew. I do really like it, though. Maybe it will be for The Little Boy. I’m enjoying figuring out my fair isle technique, though I’m definitely finding that I need to work at my stranding technique. The hat pulls in around the snowflakes.

Here are the Loathsome Fit-Nobody Socks (isn’t that what I decided to call them?) They’re even more loathsome now — the second sock is a little bit longer than the first and might actually fit my foot. Great. At least the needles are free and available for a sock project from this.
The Jack sweater has been on the back-burner for awhile, though The Little Boy is chomping at the bit for it. Maybe I’ll wrap that up this weekend.
On the homeschooling front — Persia is treating us well and The Girl wrote an excellent composition on the caste system in ancient India. I’ll be telling the story of Zarathustra Thursday and Friday. Good stuff.
