the future is now!
I am, quite often, a dreamer. I love to think about what the future will bring — dreaming about moving to England and working on a Camphill for a year, imagining taking another group of students through the grades, even thinking about the far-off future days when my children have flown the coop and I have downsized into a cute little downtown cottage. Thinking about the future is one of the indulgences of adulthood that I have enjoyed immensely.
I’ve been realizing lately, though, that the now is an even greater gift. Now that I’m working with kindergarteners and preschoolers at school, every moment I am being compelled to live in the moment. Today one of the little ones was a little sad at rest time — the quiet stillness brought up thoughts of home and mommy. She snuggled on a lap, rested for a bit and then got up to play. Later I checked in with her and told her that I was glad she was feeling better. She gave me a “what are you talking about?” look and then went back to her play. What was I thinking? It’s all about now! And it’s a good thing, because now is pretty darn good!

I just landed here from mdc’s blog challenge. Lovely writing! Thank you for the reminder to be present.
It is so true – this realization has been very much in the front of my mind this week. Thank you for being one of the reminders.
While we’re discussing the matter of Home School Life » the future is now!, While home schooling can occasionally feel like a solitary struggle, these resources give parents plenty of ways to feel connected.
